Apical joins TFA 2020, looks forward to partner others to advance sustainability

Apical Group is now a partner of Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 (TFA 2020). TFA 2020 is the global public-private partnership that brings together governments, private sector, and civil society organisations to reduce deforestation associated with the sourcing of commodities such as palm oil, beef, soy, and pulp and paper.

TFA 2020, an initiative hosted by the World Economic Forum, aims to foster cross-sector collaboration based on a common understanding of the barriers and opportunities linked to deforestation-free supply chains.

Leveraging TFA 2020 as a platform for collaboration, all partners can exchange knowledge, expertise and best practices on forest and ecosystem conservation, and improve planning, management and monitoring of deforestation and degradation.

This partnership, formed in November 2017, is timely for Apical, one of the largest exporters of palm oil in Indonesia, owning and controlling an extensive spectrum of the palm oil business value chain. Collaborating with alliances such as TFA 2020 is pivotal to Apical’s business and its commitment to sustainability. It offers an additional avenue for Apical, which is also a signatory to the New York Declaration on Forests, to work with different organisations on initiatives that will drive sustainability among businesses.

Currently, Apical partners with NGOs and accreditation bodies such as Daemeter, Proforest, The Forest Trust (TFT), Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), on sustainability, traceability, and various capacity building programmes for farmers and small holders to empower them and eventually their communities as well.

With sustainability ingrained in its business core values, Apical is determined to lead efforts to progress sustainability across industries together with fellow TFA 2020 partners. “This partnership is aligned with our company’s core values and bigger purpose of creating positive change in the communities we operate in. We look forward to supporting TFA 2020’s mission and to collaborate with others on initiatives that create positive change in the areas of sustainability and deforestation,” said Dato’ Yeo How, President of Apical Group.

“This also comes aptly at a time when Apical Group is embarking on a journey to adopt and contribute towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We believe that every individual and company can play a role. Collectively, we can mobilise businesses and communities to discover business-led solutions and technologies to address the world’s biggest sustainable development challenges,” affirmed Dato’ Yeo.
